Providence Hospitals recently presented employee Ruth Nichols with the hospitals' most prestigious honor, the Servant Award. Established in 2005, the Servant Award recognizes a Providence employee for outstanding, consistent service demonstrating the mission and core values of the hospitals: courage, collaboration, respect, justice and compassion. The award also defines a servant as someone possessing character traits such as selflessness and forgiveness.

Nichols, a Providence employee for 30 years, recently transitioned from her role as director of Volunteer Services to patient advocate. Of her award, Nichols says, "I am extremely honored and humbled to be this year's recipient of the Servant Award. To say that I am overwhelmed by this recognition would understate the case. Providing outstanding service has always been at the core of the mission of Providence Hospitals and I seek to honor this tradition every day."

A native of Wilkesboro, NC, Nichols currently resides in Forest Acres. She is a member of Trinity Cathedral and a former board member of Family Shelter. Nichols has previously served as president the South Carolina Hospital Association's Directors of Volunteer Services in Health Care Organizations and on the board of the divisonal organization Southeastern Directors of Volunteer Services in Health Care Organization, which covers 13 southeastern states.

Sponsored by the Sisters of Charity Health System, Providence Hospitals is known statewide for its compassionate care. This non-profit organization is licensed for 304 beds and is comprised of four entities: Providence Hospital, Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, Providence Hospital Northeast and Providence Orthopaedic & Neuro Spine Institute. A faith-based health care facility in the Midlands area of South Carolina, Providence employs more than 1,900 caring individuals.

Providence Hospital, located in downtown Columbia, was founded by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine in 1938. The facility is best known for the expertise in cardiac care it provides through Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, which is recognized statewide as a referral center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Providence Hospital Northeast was established in 1999 and offers a range of medical services in surgery, emergency care, women's and children's services and rehabilitation. Providence Northeast is home to Providence Orthopaedic & Neuro Spine Institute, which provides medical and surgical treatment of diseases and injuries of the bones, joints and spine.

Providence Hospitals President and CEO George Zara presented Ruth Nichols with the Servant Award at a ceremony honoring her dedication and service to the hospitals.

http://www.ghd-hair-cheap.com">ghd hair straightenerIt is a commonplace among moralists that you cannot get happiness by pursuing it. This is only true if you pursue it unwisely. Gamblers at Monte Carlo are pursuing money, and most of them lose it instead, but there are other ways of pursuing money which often succeed. So it is with happiness. If you pursue it by means of drink, you are forgetting the hang-over. Epicurus pursued it by living only in congenial society and eating only dry bread, supplemented by a little cheese on feast days. His method proved successful in his case, but he was a valetudinarian , and most people would need something more vigorous. For most people, the pursuit of happiness, unless supplemented in various ways, is too abstract and theoretical to be adequate as a personal rule of life. But I think that whatever personal rule of life you may choose it should not, except in rare and heroic cases, be incompatible with happiness.
