Our story begins in 1851 when the first Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine arrived in Cleveland, Ohio to serve as the city’s first public health nurses. The Sisters went on to address many unmet community needs in Ohio and South Carolina by establishing hospitals, schools and dozens of other health and social service programs.

The institutional health and human service ministries of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine are overseen by the Sisters of Charity Health System. Now in our 25th year, we have grown to provide strategic direction and faith-based leadership to a diverse family of ministries that touches the lives of thousands each year.
