The Sisters of Charity Health System would like to welcome Joan Ross as chief operating officer for St. Vincent Charity Hospital. Ross comes to St. Vincent from Providence Hospitals based in Columbia, South Carolina, where she served as senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer since 2006. At Providence, which was founded by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine in 1938 through mortgaging their motherhouse in Lakewood and is now the leading cardiovascular center in South Carolina, Ross developed a culture of patient safety by eliminating silos and enhancing communication across departments.

Catholic Community Connection will hold their annual symposium September 16 at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe, Ohio. This year’s topic is “Collaboration in Catholic Education, Health, Human Services and Senior Living.” Serving as the keynote speaker, Father Fred Kammer, SJ is a priest, an attorney and a member of the Southern Provence of the Jesuits. Fr. Fred has worked in a number of programs for poor and vulnerable persons, both as a lay volunteer, an attorney, an advocate, and an administrator.

Healthy Learners has launched a new identity, mission and vision statement that connects to Sisters of Charity Health System. The new Mission Statement is, "In the spirit of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, Healthy Learners is devoted to removing children's health barriers to learning with love and compassion". The new Vision Statement is, "Our vision is that all children are healthy and able to reach their full potential." August 10th was a soft rollout date of the new identity with Labor Day slated as the target date for the full implementation of the new image for Healthy Learners. See more here!

CLEVELAND, OH—(September 1, 2009)—September is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month and the addiction specialists at Rosary Hall at St. Vincent Charity Hospital will be holding seminars to help educate those who may have a loved one who is trapped within the cycle of addiction.
This year’s theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Learn, Together We Heal,” emphasizes the need to use all available resources to help educate people about the disease and to help those affected by substance abuse to get support.
