Georgette Jackson, executive director of Joseph’s Home, will present “Serving the Least among Us” as keynote speaker at the First Friday Club of Cleveland meeting on June 2 at noon. The Early Childhood Resource Center (ECRC) invites the community to participate in a day of family activities, including interactive games, hands-on learning sessions, refreshments and door prizes, at the ECRC Free Family Fun Event.
The event will be held on Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, at the new ECRC facility at 1718 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton, Ohio.
Highlights include performances by the Canton Idols, art activities, face painting, and dance and music sessions. Kids can explore the center’s new playscape, featuring United Way’s Born Learning Trail and natural spaces for gardening and play. Families will also enjoy PNC’s Mobile Learning Adventure, a traveling exhibit that helps parents and caregivers learn about the importance of early childhood education while they engage in fun activities with their children.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland is sponsoring a public screening of the film "Beyond the Bricks," a documentary that explores and promotes solutions to the "long running crisis in American education: the low performance and dismal graduation rates of school-age Black males." The movie will be shown the evening of Feb. 21 at Cuyahoga Community College, along with a question and answer session with the director Derek Koen and Dr. Ivory Toldson, author of the Breaking Barriers Report.

Clevelanders celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 17, 2011, at a St. Vincent Charity Medical Center event that featured 11th District Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, who is Ohio’s only black member of Congress.

On January 14, the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate an important step toward becoming the first comprehensive marketplace to combine permanent showrooms, a Class-A exhibition hall and state-of-the-art conference facilities tailored to the needs of the medical marketplace. When the facility opens in 2013, the Sisters of Charity Health System plans to be an important part of this showcase of our region’s bright future in health care innovation, education and commerce.
