Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina Awards $467,937 in Grants

Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded 10 responsive grants totaling $467,937 to nonprofit and faith-based organizations across South Carolina.

Responsive grants are designed to address the root causes of poverty using strategic methods that allow the foundation to work closely with grantees and develop collaborative relationships by selectively offering focused technical assistance and more intentional monitoring through site visits. Responsive grants are awarded once a year.

“We believe in these organizations and the work they are committed to every day to address poverty in South Carolina,” said Yvonne Orr, board chair of the foundation. “It is our hope that this funding will help strengthen these organizations, their programs and services as they serve those in need.”

Organizations wishing to apply for funding should visit the foundation’s website, sistersofcharitysc.com, for information on the application process. The next grant application deadline is the first Tuesday in November.

Alice Hurley Receives Leadership In Diversity Award from Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina honored Alice Hurley with its inaugural Leadership In Diversity Award at its annual Responsive Grants Luncheon on June 13, 2011. 

The Leadership In Diversity Award, established to commemorate the Foundation’s 15 years in philanthropy, recognizes an individual or organization that illustrates exemplary performance in the area of diversity and inclusion. The award honors those that serve as a model and whose accomplishments are made through community engagement, awareness, bridge building, compassionate leadership and courageous advocacy.

Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina Awards $79,500 in Grants

Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded 31 Caritas grants, totaling $64,500, and three other grants, totaling $15,000, to nonprofit and faith-based organizations across South Carolina.

Caritas grants are for organizations providing outreach services to the poor and marginalized. They are one-year grants designed for organizations with annual budgets of less than $250,000.

In addition to the 31 Caritas grants, Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry, Harvest Hope Food Bank and The Cooperative Ministry each received a grant for $5,000.

“We hope these grants will make a small impact and benefit these organizations in meeting the immediate needs of the underserved in our state,” said Yvonne Orr, board chair of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina.

Organizations wishing to apply for funding should visit the foundation’s website, www.sistersofcharitysc.com, for information on the application process. The next Caritas grant application deadline is November 1.
