As part of Mercy Medical Center’s commitment to the promotion of health and physical fitness in the community, Mercy Sports Medicine will once again host the 29th annual Mercy Health Run Classic on Saturday, May 14. This 5k road-race will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the start and finish at Mercy Health Center of North Canton, located at 6200 Whipple Avenue NW. A free 0.6 mile kids fun run will take place at 8 a.m. Children of all ages are welcome to participate.
All registered runners will be entered in a drawing for two AirTran tickets to anywhere they travel in the continental United States.
The cost is $20 for online or paper registration received by 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. Participants can register online at rsracingsystems.com or call 330-966-8920 for more information about paper registration. Same day registration begins at 7 a.m., and the cost is $25. All pre-registered runners will receive a Mercy Health Run t-shirt.

The Office of Healthy Ohio has recognized Mercy Medical Center, along with 32 other Ohio businesses, for healthy worksite practices. The Healthy Ohio-Healthy Worksite awards recognize employers that demonstrate a commitment to employee health through comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs. Mercy Medical Center, which is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, earned a bronze award in the large employer category (301 or more employees).

The Sisters of Charity Health System (SCHS) is an official partner of the U.S. Census Bureau this year; the healthcare system’s primary objective is to promote participation in the census to low income Northeast Ohioans to ensure the group is accurately represented in the upcoming 2010 census.
The Sisters of Charity Health System is spreading the word about the importance of the census and availability of questionnaires amongst its employees, patients and the communities it serves.
Census data is not only used to apportion seats in the U.S. House of Representatives amongst states, it directly affects how the more than $400 billion per year in federal funding is allocated to communities for neighborhood improvements, public health, education, transportation and more.

Congratulations to Mercy Medical Center and St. John West Shore Hospital on being named Thomson Reuters Top 100 Hospitals in the country for cardiovascular services. The 100 Top Hospitals study evaluated short-term, acute care, non-federal U.S. hospitals that treat a broad spectrum of cardiology patients. The top performing hospitals perform over 50 percent more cardiac surgeries than peer hospitals.

Canton, Ohio: In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mercy Boutique will offer special events in October.
On-site prosthetic fittings will be available in a comfortable and private environment with representatives from Amoena on Friday, Oct. 9; American Breast Care (ABC) on Friday, Oct. 16; and Trulife on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Appointments are required and can be made by calling Mercy Boutique at 330-456-9960. Mercy Boutique will offer light refreshments, door prizes and a 20 percent sale (excluding consignment items) all three days.
